If you told me a few years ago that I'd be doing this, let alone doing it for over half a decade, I would've said you were out of your mind. But yet here I am ready more than ever to talk to you about, yes, sex.

 

Growing up in such a religious household and never getting the actual “talk” (and going as far as to be the only one signed out of Sex Ed), I can pretty much say that I lived a very sheltered childhood in this (and more than just one) aspect. Sex was such an unspoken word and genre of conversation that I wouldn’t dare talk about it except in hushed chats with friends.

Starting my own sexual health journey was to purely educate myself on everything that I should’ve learned. The more I began to delve into it, the more I realized that the sexual health information needed to be more widespread. We were literally doing ourselves a disservice by NOT talking about it more often. Things like not being able to take antibiotics with birth control because you can get pregnant and 80% of women need clitoral stimulation to achieve orgasm (and where exactly is the clitoris and g-spot!) and the tip of the penis is like a sponge and soaks up our personal wetness which is why lube is your friend and TOYS ARE NOT THE ENEMY are all points that needed brought up.

The drive to educate and empower other women is the reason why, for me, it isn’t embarrassing to talk about sex. So many women feel alone because they may hear or see something that makes them think they aren’t “normal” and that they are the only ones. Opening the conversation allows connection and the communication helps to overcome that uncomfortableness because let’s admit it, sex is fun and when you can enhance that confidence in your body with yourself, it is such a phenomenal feeling.
